Somewhere in the Desert

On a plane trip a couple of years ago, I was captivated by the strangeness of hundreds, maybe thousands, of water pools in the middle of the desert. All different colours from muddy red to bright turquoise, like someone had thrown a fistful of jewels in the dirt. The vastness, the beauty, the peace, the perfectness was so powerful. To look at a single pool it's easy just to see a muddy pool but to stand back and observe the whole scape, one can begin to comprehend the concept of forever. In daily life we're so often focused on the specifics that we don't see the big picture and as a result endure all kinds of suffering. We are focused on 'one' - I, me and mine - forgetting that in fact, we are all part of the whole. This is a reflection on the beauty in simplicity and the Oneness of all things.
